Director of the Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark at Frey Architekten


A delegation from Qiangdao under the direction of Mr. ZHAO Shiyu, Director for the Management Committee of the Qiangdao Sino-German Ecopark and Mr. CHEN Xianghua, CEO of the Qingdao Jian An Group, visited the Frey Architekten office in Freiburg on May 21, 2016. The delegation received a warm reception by Wolfgang Frey (the owner of Frey Architekten und the Frey Group), Ms. Wang (partner for the region of China) and Dr. Bernd Dallmann, (CEO of the Freiburg Wirtschaft, Touristik und Messe, GmbH & Co.KG). In 2010 China and Germany signed a memorandum to collaborate in building the Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark. Since that time, the project’s development has received a great deal of international attention from an enterprise and political perspective.

Frey Architekten gladly welcomes a top-class delegation from Israel, Romania and Hungary consisting of CEOs, CFOs, General Manager, Directors and Planner of Shikun&Binui R.E.D., ASBUD GROUP, Horizon Holding und Direct Capital.

Organizer of the event is Israel Green Building Council (ILGBC) with local partner Freiburg Future Lab.

Shikun & Binui R.E.D. is an affiliate of the Shikun & Binui Group, which has been active worldwide for more than 50 years in construction and development of residential and commercial buildings. Shikun & Binui R.E.D. is widely involved in Central and Eastern Europe (in countries like Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Germany and Hungary), and has already built 80,000 square meters of commercial, office and residential projects in Budapest.


Wolfgang Frey with the large-scale enterprise Morton in Russia


Following their successful meeting on February 17th in Germany (Freiburg), Siemens and Morton organized a business trip for Wolfgang Frey to the Morton headquarters in Moscow, Russia. The aim of this second meeting was to reaffirm the cooperation between Morton, Siemens and Frey Architekten in sustainable urban development.

The Morton CEO Mr. Dmitry Zotov received Wolfgang Frey on May 17th at the headquarters. The Director of the Center for Urbanism in Moscow Mr Victor Rusakov showed along with some other architects showed Wolfgang Frey the ongoing projects and took his expert feeback.

To implement the strategic deployment of the CPC Central Committee and State Council about reinforcing Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction,the „International Conference on Green and Energy-Efficient Building & New Technologies and Products Expo (IGEBC)“ was born in 2005 and successfully held for nine years. Co-organized by Chinese Society for Urban Studies, China Green Building Council and Eco-City Research Committee of China, the Tenth IGEBC will be held at Beijing International Convention Center(BICC) on March 28-30, 2014 with a theme as “Popularizing Green Building, Promoting Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction”.


Political dialog with Qiu Baoxing


Qiu Baoxing, former Vice Minister for Construction of People’s Republic of China and the current direct advisor of the Chinese State Council of Minister President Li Keqiang, met with Wolfang Frey over a personal dinner, focusing on their ongoing technical exchange since 2010.

Since 2007, the former Vice Minister for Construction has been heading the “Chinese Society for Urban Studies” (CSUS) founded in 1984. It is a technical organization that supports the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction of the People’s Republic of China. Qiu Baoxing is also the President of the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) and the Chairman of the IWA China Committee.


Delegation from Russia


On 2/17/16, representatives of Siemens Munich (German representative of Siemens Moscow) and the company Morton met with Wolfgang Frey in the office of Frey Architekten in Freiburg-Rieselfeld.

The aim of the meeting was the conclusion of a cooperation agreement between Frey Architekten, Siemens, Morton and the City Planning Office of Moscow for future cooperation and exchange in sustainable urban development. As an introduction, Wolfgang Frey presented the five-finger principle of sustainability as well as current construction projects such as the Smart Green Tower. The visit was rounded off by a tour through Freiburg-Rieselfeld as well as the visit to the Freiburg airfield.


Japanese delegation in Freiburg


The Federal Ministry for the Economy and Energy, in cooperation with the economic development company of the state of Baden-Württemberg International, organized a mission of Japanese decision-makers from the fields of economics, politics and administration.

The aim of the trip is the market preparation for the sales of German products and services in Japan in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.

Wolfgang Frey of Frey Architekten received the Japanese delegation on 12/3/2015 in Freiburg-Rieselfeld and gave an insight into the five-fingers principle. During a lecture and a subsequent tour, the “green building wood house” was presented inter alia.

Leading experts in ecological building are also meeting this year at the Israel Green Building Council (ILGBC) in Tel-Aviv. The Green Building Council was founded in 2007 as a non-profit enterprise. Today, the ILGBC enjoys world-wide recognition and has the support of national institutes and environmental associations.

As part of the 2-day event in Tel Aviv, Wolfgang Frey will be leading a day-long workshop (“Sustainable Architecture with focus on added value”) and speaking on the following topics: “From mistakes to success: the economic benefits of green building and planning” and “District Rieselfeld in Freiburg, Germany – a modern sustainable neighborhood”.


Smart Green Tower the focus of the “Digital Transformation in cities” in London


Digitalization is all the rage nowadays. Digital aspects are also gaining more and more significance in the field of green building and energy supply. High level city representatives, industry administrators and lateral thinkers are discussing the efficient application of innovative elements in what is probably the “greenest” building in the world, “Crystal”.

As part of the conference “Digital Transformation in cities” in London on 9/14, Mr Frey presented the flagship project Smart Green Tower.


Wolfgang Frey at the BT Management Meeting 2015 by Siemens


Wolfgang Frey was granted the honor at this year’s management meeting of giving a lecture on the Smart Green Tower. The latest Siemens technology is also being implemented in this flagship project, that is being built at the end of 2016 for the first time in Freiburg.

Around 160 top Siemens managers from regions around the world (Germany, Europe, America, Asia and Australia) and the headquarters come together annually at the BT management meeting in order to discuss the strategic orientation. A major focus is sustainable urban development (“Sustainable Cities Initiative”), which is reflected inter alia in the form of the event building “Crystal” in London.
