Smart buildings – partners for intelligent energy networks2016.07.14

Smart buildings are an important component for the safe and efficient energy supply of the future. Through the use of automated technical infrastructure and physical and digital connections to local energy networks, they offer the possibility to buffer excess electricity from fluctuating renewable sources in thermal and electrical storage units. Among other things they are thus able to react to price signals sent from the network and derive optimal actions, such as shifting energy-intensive processes, using electricity, saving energy in another form, or producing regenerative energy itself. As such, buildings become an integral part of an intelligent energy network, the so-called smart grid, and are able to do three things: produce, store and consume energy.
